Dublin: The Legacy

So this is Kate's sister Sian who has just hijacked her blog and decided to post myself. We feel Katie is best left to draw while I write. So anyways we decided to visit the Guinness Storehouse here in Dublin to experience a little bit of history and the "real" reason behind Dublin's popularity ;) On the way there we couldn't miss taking the obligatory church shot, because really those things are everywhere.

Guinness is a pretty big deal here, as you can see. The founder of the company, Arthur Guinness, took out a lease on this building for 9,000 years to house his brewery. He was a pretty cocky guy but he seemed to have good intuition as Guinness was created in 1759 and is still going strong today.

They take their work very seriously here I suppose.

John Gilroy created these stylized posters for Guinness in the 30's and onwards. I think the kinkajou one is the best just because of how bizarre it is.

But really the best part of all had to be when we became "Master Pint Pourers," and even earned certificates with our names on them. It was a very proud moment and I'm sure O'Hara's everywhere wept with joy.

After our exciting journey to the Storehouse we decided to head over to the National Museum of Archaeology. They had some cool artifacts there like these gilded book covers. I'm not sure from what century they were but they were pretty old. And metal; they made metal book covers for a while.

This guy is creepy. He was a man who was brutally murdered in Neolithic Ireland and thrown in a peat bog. Apparently peat bog is really good at preserving dead people. Who knew?

On a lighter note, Katie found her astrology sign on the museum's floor. So that's cool.

One more day in Dublin before we travel on to Cork for a few days.
